My rating: * * * * *
First book read this year, first 5 star rating!! There have been thousands of people who have written a synopsis of this novel, so I won’t even try. What I WILL say is – If you like history, particularly European/English history, you will devour this book that in some parts is actually based on real events that occurred during the 12th century. Personally, I felt like I’d never enjoy reading about the Middle Ages, but oh man…. this one grabbed me on page one and didn’t let me go. This took me over three weeks to read — and at 973 pages of fairly small font, well, it’s probably the biggest book I’ve ever read. I’ve been brushing this book aside, trying to ignore it on my shelves for at least 8 years, instead choosing shorter books so that I can add to my yearly book total and make my Goodreads goal. Not this year. No more ignoring my huge books in favor of making “a goal”. Nope, it’s the “Year of the Tomes” for me! Not every book I read will be huge, but at least this year, I won’t be afraid to start the big ones — and I’ve got quite a few chunkers that I already own, just itching to be read!!
